Walmart announced today that they will close 269 stores worldwide, including 154 US locations, in order to invest more in Supercenters and its Neighborhood Market chain. They also plan to open more than 300 stores in the next fiscal year, many of which will be Neighborhood Markets, small grocery stores meant to be less overwhelming than large superstores. Neighborhood Markets are meant to “woo shoppers with easier parking, less crowded aisles and quicker checkout.” However, Walmart plans to close hundreds of Walmart Expresses, the smallest Walmart stores which have under-performed.
Businesses looking into opening local stores, like Walmart’s Neighborhood Markets, should consider using custom satellite maps with store locations. Satellite maps give you an aerial view of target areas and allow you to easily view store locations denoted by their logos. Having a visual of competitors as well as related businesses that may draw customers to your store, will help you determine the best location for your new site. SatSite custom satellite maps by MarketMAPS can display traffic counts, demographics, sales data and other information to help you with your site or market evaluation!
